Animal Registration
DNA Testing can only be requested for Registered Animals. The below information is required for DNA Testing.
- Membership No
- Stud Prefix
- Ident (brand, ear tag, NLIS if relevant) e.g. 345/5, 250345, 25-345
- Parentage details (sire and dam)

Standard Bundle
The Standard Bundle includes:
- Genomic Profile
- Pompes
- Poll Status
- Parentage
Standard Bundle DNA testing is required for:
- All sires
- IVF calves
- IVF Donor Cows
- Any animal for which ABBA requests confirmation
Standard Bundle or Seek Sire Test?
- Any animal needing parent verification not in the above list
Trait Panel
Trait Panel includes:
- Pompes E7
- CMS – Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome
- Poll Status
- Tenderness
- Dwarfism
Approved Sample Types
You may submit one of the following:
- Hair Sample
- 30-40 tail hairs
- Must include dry/clean, intact follicles
- TSU (Tissue Sampling Unit)
- Collected using an approved Allflex/Datamars TSU applicator
- Ensure the TSU is sealed and uncontaminated
- Full Semen Straw (doesn’t need to be frozen)
Submitting DNA Samples
- All samples are submitted to ABBA at PO BOX 796, Rockhampton QLD 4700 or the laboratory.
- Standard Bundle Test can only be requested through the ABBA office
- If submitting straight to the Lab, please get in touch with ABBA first to obtain a batch No
- ABBA will process and forward samples to the nominated testing facility.
Labelling Requirements
Clearly label each sample with:
- Animal Identification Code
- Tick for Pesti Virus Testing
