The Carinya Garglen Sale 2025

The Carinya Garglen Sale 2025

2024 Sale Report

You all know that feeling when you wake up on “sale day”.  Anxious, nervous, but hopeful.  It was no different for our team on Tuesday 29th October for the Carinya Garglen Sale, with their 4 am start.  Everything flowed like clockwork, with bulls washed and penned by 6 am, and everything in place at the selling complex.  It was a glorious day, and we had done all we could at this point, so as I had told the team many times that week, the rest was up to the bull sale Gods.

The Bishop and Kirk families have always bred for fertility and growth, the two profit drivers in this industry, while primarily maintaining focus on the commercial cattle industry, but adding the phenotype that suits seedstock producers.  As a combined group, we stand on common ground with our belief in, and passion for the Brahman breed, as we have over the previous 7 decades, and 4 generations.

The sale was officially opened at 10 am, and it was showtime.  There was spirited bidding from the get-go with Lot 1, Garglen Johnstone, a polled (PS) son of Willtony Blundstone that sold as 3/4 share, full possession, with 50 straws of semen to the purchaser.  This eye-catching bull weighed in at 949kg, presenting with a 150 EMA, 5.5 IMF, 16 and 11 fat scans and 38 cm scrotal measurement.  Johnstone’s phenotype was certainly backed up by his figures.  He is in the top 1% of the breed for 200, 400 and 600 day growth and CWT, and top 10% for EMA and RBY.  His dam has been a consistent producer within the Garglen herd and at 10 years of age, displays a perfect udder.  When the hammer finally fell, Johnstone had realized an outstanding $170 000, but just as exciting to us was the fact that his new home was to be the renowned Kenilworth Brahmans. Repeat buyers, Kelvin and Margaret chose Johnstone for the ‘amount of meat’ he carried, with excellent fat cover for softness, whilst standing on great bone and with the bonus of a polled head.  We sincerely thank the Maloney family, but also thank the underbidders for their keen interest.  Garglen Johnstone is the top priced Brahman bull for the 2024 sale season to date and holds the honour of top priced bull of any breed sold in Queensland for 2024.  Let us all as Brahman breeders celebrate the fact that a Brahman bull has become the top priced bull of the year in Queensland 2025.

The momentum continued to roll from this point, with intense bidding competition at times.  The next highest price of the day was for Lot 75, Garglen S Lasso.  He is a son of NCC Dakota, out of a Brahrock female, and was purchased by Yacamunda Investments for $92 500.  Lot 11- Carinya Marshall sold for $80 000 as a ¾ share, full possession to the Scott family, Ruan Grazing, repeat buyers for Carinya brahmans.  Sired by NCC Brewster, a sire that is doing a mighty job producing top quality Brahmans at Carinya.  Once again, his powerful presence was backed by impressive figures for growth, and excellent phenotype – the perfect combination that we all seek.  Lot 22 was another bull that caught the attention of bidders, realising $42 500 as the hammer fell, being booked down to the Harrybrant Grazing Company.  Carinya J Eddie is a powerful son of NCC Eli and was in the top 5% for growth figures, EMA and RBY.

It would be remiss of us to not thank our wonderful sponsors – Hourn & Bishop, Elders, Westpac, Beef Breeding Services, Virbac, Nutrien Ag Solutions Mundubbera, and Feedpro.  Also thank you to Wayne York Auctioneering and to our sale agents Anthony Ball and Brad Passfield and your teams for their efforts.  To the Childs family for the privilege of access to this state-of-the-art complex that creates an incredible atmosphere. The ability to host pre-sale inspections of our bulls in the lead up to the sale was an integral part of the success.   To all purchasers, underbidders and supporters, please know we recognise and appreciate you.  And finally, a big thankyou to our family members and entire team that work so well together and made work feel like fun, and the week so enjoyable.

After confirming with our agents (twice for good measure) that the Carinya Garglen sale had realised a 100% clearance for 77 lots offered, with an impressive average of $18 201 and a top price of $170 000, we were finally able to relax and enjoy a lovely barbeque lunch on the lawns of the complex, followed by some cold ales shared with friends, both new and old – celebrating a day we will not forget for quite a while.

We feel very humbled by the industry support we received as we continue to work towards building a legacy that creates confidence for our beloved Brahmans.

See you all in 2025!
