The inaugural Clermont Commercial Brahman Female Show and Sale will be held on Friday 19 April in what organisers hope becomes a regular event on the industry’s calendar.

The Australian Brahman Breeders Association endorsed event will take place at the Clermont Saleyards, under the operation of sole agents, Hoch and Wilkinson.

Jake Passfield, Hoch and Wilkinson, said the sale presents a great opportunity for Brahman breeders to show and sell good quality lines of females.

Entries are open in five categories, being PTIC heifers under three years, PTIC cows under 10 years, cows and calves, yearling heifers over 300kg and weaner heifers under 300kg.

All show entries will go under the hammer in an open auction later on the Friday, with the two heifer classes to be pre-weighed and all lots sold per head.

Mr Passfield said the event had been well received in the industry.

“While it’s too early to estimate entry numbers, we could well receive between 1000 to 1200 females, drawn largely from the local Clermont area and across to the coastal areas of Mackay and Marlborough, such as been the interest so far,” Mr Passfield said.

“It’s been well received and we’ve heard that some producers could possibly hold back cattle from other sales, to enter this event.

“It gives producers a chance to line up quality lines of females for those buyers who may want to buy a big run of cattle.

“The Brahman female is a big part of central and northern herds.”

Mr Passfield said the Brahman was one of the dominant breeds in the Clermont  and surrounding areas, and the event offered breeders an opportunity to secure a premium for their Brahman females.
