Rockhampton Junior Beef was started in 1991 and has been run at the Rockhampton Showgrounds each year during the mid-year school break at the end of June. Numbers started at around 40 enthusiastic competitors and over the years has got up to over 200 but we are happiest at around 100 – 120 which is where numbers currently sit. Throughout the years we have continued to enjoy the junior judging and parading competitions, many trips to Gracemere to judge commercial cattle, and an ever-changing educational program to keep our participants interested and informed. We have had everything from Meat cooking competitions, Meatworks tours, Working dog demonstrations, AI practice on our “cow” Betsy, Scanning demonstrations and many other activities. Our pasture Olympics has been a must in our nightly activities as has the awards night which is always an enjoyable dinner that allows everyone to get dressed up and have a great time.
